Acts 1:2
“until the day when he [Jesus] was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen”
These two volumes make up one quarter of the New Testament. Luke does NOT view these two parts as: part one – Jesus, and part two – The Church of Jesus. The contrast Luke is making and will develop is not between Jesus and His Church, but between the two stages of the life of Jesus. Part one is Jesus’ ministry on earth, and part two, Jesus’ ministry from heaven, through the Holy Spirit within His people. The pinnacle of this, is of course the ascension
Jesus went up
The Spirit came down
Jesus went to the right hand of the Father, and the Spirit of Jesus (Holy Spirit) came down into the lives of the apostles, and the world was turned upside down from this point forward. Father God, thank You for the life, death and resurrection of Your Son Jesus, and for His Spirit springing forth into our lives to give us the very power we need to live this life pleasing to You. Help me to live like Jesus today, glorifying You in my obedience to You, and through the power of Your Spirit, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
ACTION: Live “through the Holy Spirit”
