Acts 6:6
“These they set before the apostles, and they prayed and laid their hands on them.”
These seven men are chosen by the leaders and approved by the whole of the congregation, and now they are commissioned to work with Jesus by the power of Jesus through prayer and laying their hands on them. This root word for prayer is toward facing, or turning their attention to God, and specifically seeking God’s face. In prayer we should seek God’s presence and His face before asking for His hand and His work. We seek the very presence of God first;
If we seek God’s
hand alone
We could miss
God’s face
If we seek God’s face
We always get
His hand
Just like our kids coming to us and asking us to give or do something for them, we desire a hug first, before we give them our wallet, because as parents we desire their presence before we give them all we have. Our Father in heaven is seeking our face, and desires us to ask for His Presence, and His character before we ask for His work. Father God, You are the Creator of all we see, and all we do not see. You are holy, holy, holy, You alone are sovereign and good. Allow Your Spirit to compel me to be with You and seek more of who You are today, and not worry so much about what Your hand is doing, rather just be still in Your Presence, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
