Acts 2:15
“For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.”
Peter cracks a joke towards these accusers. He says it is only 9am and that these 120 people would not be drunk at this time. First, people do not start drinking anything or eating much until their afternoon prayer time, which would be after 3pm. Second these people would not get drunk at all, because getting drunk means your mind is influenced by something other than God.
This is the question
Of control and
Influence
Being influenced and controlled by alcohol leads to heightened emotions and irrational decisions, regret and depression. Being influenced and controlled by the Spirit of the living God produces a changed behavior as well. These once timid disciples becoming flaming evangelists. Being filled, influenced and controlled by the Spirit produces a thankful heart, and an attitude of continual submission. One time submission is possible by almost anyone, but being thankful in daily submission is an act of the Holy Spirit. Father God, thank You for Your Spirit residing within my soul. Compel me to seek Your will and Your way in each circumstance today, then walk in Your will through each situation, by the power and control of Your Spirit, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
