Acts 2:17
“And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;”
Peter does not give an explanation of the Holy Spirit, rather he quotes a well known theme from the Old Testament, namely “the last days”. The last days are not just the days leading up to the second coming of our King Jesus, but began with Jesus’s first coming. They believed there to be only one Messiah, but they did not know
This ONE Messiah
Would come
TWO times
They did not know that “the last days” would last 2000 years, and we do not know when the last days will end. The point is not to know if we are in the last days of the last days, but to know that God has been pouring out His Spirit on anyone who has placed their trust in Jesus as their Lord and Redeemer, and that God will do so, until the return of our Redeemer for the second time. Father God, thank You that I live in a time where You are continually pouring out Your Spirit on Your people. Do not allow me to take that for granted, but to submit to Your Spirit and walk with You. Allow my affections, attitude, attention and actions to be pleasing in Your sight today, my Rock and Redeemer, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
ACTION: Pray for the filling of the Spirit and then walk by the Spirit.
