Acts 7:47
“But it was Solomon who built a house for him.”
David never builds the temple, but his son Solomon does using the material collected by David. The temple Solomon had built was destroyed before this. In fact this temple they are referring to is the third temple that was built, and this one will be destroyed too. The Jewish people are guilty of worshiping a temple, and not the living God. It’s not the building that coerced the attention of their heart, soul, mind and strength, but it is the physical nature of this building. It is tangible. They can see and touch it, so it feels more real than the God of the universe.
The Temple’s design
Was not permanent
But to be a
Pointer towards
Jesus Christ
The Temple was the place of sacrifice, but was intended to point towards Jesus Christ our final sacrifice to fulfill all the law required of us. Father God, thank You for sending Your Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross, and offer the perfect sacrifice that ended all sacrifices in the temple. Help me to live life denying myself and being Your living sacrifice to those around me today, and draw them near to You, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
ACTION: Be a living sacrifice
