Acts 2:18
“even on my male servants and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.”
This language here is not really how we think of servants, but is the Greek word “doulos” meaning bondslave. This has the picture of the salve not caring about his or her way, but only the Masters will. We as apprentices of Jesus or bondslaves have been bought with an incredible price, and no longer live for ourselves but with and for our King. In the Old Testament God’s Spirit was a dripping on certain people, but now because of the person and work of Jesus, God pours out His Spirit on all His people that are bonded to Him by the blood of Jesus.
God’s Spirit before Jesus
Had a narrow focus
Now God’s Spirit
Is poured out
On all His servants
This is great news! We have the Spirit of the living God liberally poured out on all of us who are apprentices to the King of kings and Lord of lords. Father God, thank You for pouring out Your Spirit on all of us, and not a select few. Help me to realize the power I have because of Your Spirit. Let me soak up Your Spirit today like a sponge, and squeeze Your Spirit out of my life so that everyone around me experiences Your love, joy and peace… in Jesus’ name, Amen.
ACTION: Pour God’s Spirit out of me towards others
