“And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’”
Peter has been speaking of judgment and the wrath of God. Mainly that every person born after Adam has been born into sin, with a natural nature to sin. All people are sinners and deserve death and hell for all eternity. Ouch! The Truth hurts. Praise God for this passage and others like it that make a means of escape, and shed light on the darkness by opening a window to heaven. Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
The name of the Lord
Is the name Jesus Christ
It is not enough to appeal to His name, or use His name at the end of a prayer, but to call on Jesus as Savior means laying down your life and accepting His payment on the cross as payment for your sin. Father God, thank You that all people can call on Your name, and this gift is free to everyone. Thank You for this window of heaven that shed light into my dark soul years ago. Help me to never forget that moment of salvation for me, from You, and to live everyday in debt to Your mercy, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
