Acts 1:26
“And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.”
They cast lots for them, meaning something like throwing dice on the ground to see who would replace Judas. It’s important to note this is the last time the church used this deeply rooted Jewish means to determine God’s will. Even still, they were in obedience to Jesus, all of one mind, standing on scripture and praying in unity before casting lots. This was also before the Spirit of God in-dwelt the people of God. Wise council, circumstances and gathering facts can help in making decisions, but as followers of Jesus, we are lead by God’s Word and God’s Spirit within us! Our life should be worship based
As we
Lean on Scripture
And are
Led by the Spirit
Although the place that Judas left vacant is now filled, the place left vacant by Jesus is not yet filled up. These men are still waiting for the in-dwelling of the Holy Spirit. Father God, thank You that I live on this side of the cross and resurrection. Thank You for filling me full with Your Spirit and energizing me to do Your will and Your work by the very Spirit of Jesus Christ that lives in me. Compel me to acknowledge You in each situation today, not to lean on my own understanding, but lean on Your Word and be led by Your Spirit, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
