Acts 7:58
“Then they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.”

They would not defile the “Hall of Hewn Stone” (the courtroom) with blood, so just like Jesus, Stephen would be taken outside the city to be murdered. They would take their robes off, so they could handle the stones and make good throws. The false witnesses would be the first to throw the stones, ironically according to the OT law, which these false witnesses were breaking!

The false witness
Threw the first stone
Against the first witness
To die for Jesus

The irony continues as a young man named Saul watches this murder take place. This Saul, will be called Paul soon enough, the very same Paul saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, who writes a large portion of the New Testament. Father God, compel me to constantly be a witness for You, alongside of You, for Your glory, and the good of all people. Help me to be the living sacrifice You call me to be, and to die daily to myself, and elevate You, Your name and Your work above all else, no matter the cost, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

ACTION: Be a witness, die, be forgotten
