Acts 1:9
“And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.”

This is the pinnacle of these two books. (Pun intended) This moment ends one and begins the next (Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts). This moment terminates Jesus earthly ministry and begins His heavenly ministry.

Jesus ascends so
The Spirit
could descend

Jesus just made a promise to them, and His ascension is Him making good immediately on that promise. This makes what Jesus just said in verse eight, His last words on earth, highlighting the importance of verse eight in their lives and ours, as His followers. Because of Jesus’ life, death, resurrection and ascension to heaven, He now sits at the right hand of the Father, and we have the very power of heaven residing in us, to pour out of us on the whole earth. Meaning those last words were not His last, but His Word resides in me, and comes out of me at His will. Father God, because of the finished work of Jesus, I have rivers of living water flowing through me from my most inmost being. Allow me to glorify You, and allow Your Spirit to pour out Your goodness and mercy in each situation through me today, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
