Acts 1:6
“So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?””

It is completely understandable that the disciples are asking about the restoration of the Kingdom of Israel now. They are standing with the King of kings after His dead body had been resurrected and are thinking through the Old Testament and not realizing that the coming Messiah would come twice. In no way were they asking IF Jesus was going to restore His Kingdom. It was not a matter of IF but WHEN He would restore the Kingdom.

Their mistake becomes our mishap. They were concerned with Jesus setting up His throne but were confused, because they had a new task, that was not so new, but now emphasized! They were to be Jesus’ witnesses to the whole world! They were to keep the coming Kingdom in mind, while working with the King. The problem is that

we want to sit
at the Kings table
and eat,
but dont want to
go into the Kings fields
and work.

Jesus’ two main purposes were – the Kingdom of God and the pouring out of His Spirit. The Spirit leads us to the King and His Kingdom and then through us points others to the King and His Kingdom to point others to the King and His Kingdom. Father God, help me to continue to keep my focus on the King and His expanding kingdom through my life. Allow me to not get the task and the goal confused, but see them as one thing. Help me to spend time with You, and work with You in Your fields, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
