Acts 1:10
“And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes,”
This must have been crazy to witness! They follow this God-man for three years, everything He does and says lines up with what the Old Testament said about the Messiah, He predicts His own death and resurrection, and it all happens exactly how He said it would. They are thinking the Kingdom of God is coming to earth, but instead the King starts rising to heaven before their very eyes, in plain sight. His risen body rises to heaven.
His ascension
Creates anticipation of
His reappearance
There is something about this scene that makes the disciples believe that this is not Jesus’ final act, but the beginning of something greater. There is something In-between His first and second coming. Then our gracious Heavenly Father answers their unspoken prayer requests in the form of two messengers. Angels appear at His birth, His temptation and here at the ascension to be witnesses. Both heaven and earth are witnesses to the fact that Jesus is in heaven at the right hand of our Father. Father God, thank You for the peace in this passage, and the comfort we gain for conviction. Jesus ascended and His Spirit descended, so that Your people would be on mission with You until you reappear on the final day. Help me today, to be Your witness with You, by Your Spirit to draw people to look up and move in rhythm with You, and Your plan, to expand Your Kingdom and advance the gospel, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
