Acts 1:5
“for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

John’s baptism was very unique and was not for salvation but to see the Kingdom of God rightly. This would have been a great act of faith for Jewish people at this time. John’s baptism was to get this nation ready for the coming Messiah, so that they would recognize Jesus as God when He showed up on the scene. The disciples are told to go and wait, not passively, but actively anticipating the baptism of the Holy Spirt. This baptism of the Spirit is what every believer goes through the moment they are saved, as

The Father sent the Son as
The divine Savior
The Son sent the Spirit as
The divine Comforter,
Helper and Advocate

Jesus is the baptizer and the Spirit is the agent of baptism. EVERY CHRISTIAN RECEIVES THE SPIRIT AT THE MOMENT OF SALVATION. Even though as followers of Jesus we have the Spirit of the living God residing in us, we must be continually “filled” by the Spirit, or more clearly controlled by the Spirit so that we walk in the Spirit producing the fruit of the Spirit and not the deeds of the flesh. Father God, thank You for Your Son, salvation through His life death and resurrection, and for Your Spirit in me, changing me to be more like You. Allow Your Spirit to control my life in every way today, so that I have Your love, mercy and grace pour out of me in every situation, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
