Acts 7:24
“And seeing one of them being wronged, he defended the oppressed man and avenged him by striking down the Egyptian.”
Moses’ eyes are opened to the injustices being done to his brethren in Egypt as slave labor. Seemingly for the first time, anger towards the Egyptians starts to boil in his blood and he is compelled to act on behalf of the Lord. Moses understands that God is desiring to free His people from this bondage, but how he goes about this is wrong. He kills the Egyptian that was beating the Hebrew slave, hoping to avenge him.
The right thing
With the right heart
In our own will
Is the wrong thing
Or, simply put the anger of man, does not produce the righteousness of God. God was raising Moses up to deliver the Jewish people from slavery, but God’s plan, God’s will and God’s way was different than Moses’ ideas and short tempered outburst. Father God, help me to understand Your compassion for Your people, and to walk in patience as I do Your work, Your way, and in Your timing, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
