Acts 5:29
“But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.”

We see here that there is actually a higher court in Jerusalem than the Sanhedrin, it is the Supreme Court of Heaven. The God of Heaven had sent His Son into the world, then His Spirit into His servants, and now His servants into the world empower by His Spirit to preach the Son. This line, from Peter, is not defiance, but a reminder to the Sanhedrin way of ruling, to obey God rather than man. This was their mantra as a court.

Obedience to God is
The way to blessing
Even if it bring affliction

God’s way and His commands always take precedent over man’s rules, but they need to be God’s commands and not our extensions of His commands. If obedience to God leads to disobedience to authorities, we need to be ready to suffer the consequences just like the apostles are here. Father God, Your Word is higher than any man made document, and Your ways are higher than my ways. Allow me to continually obey You over any other authority, and walk with You through obedience to Your Word today, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

ACTION: Obey God
