Stephen is FULL of the Holy Spirit! Which makes this scenes contrast, drastically pop off the page at us. The Sanhedrin are grinding their teeth at him, and Stephen FULL of the Holy Spirit sees Jesus, the forgiveness of sinners, and is ready to forgive not fight. Stephen being FILLED FULL of the Holy Spirit is therefore controlled fully by the Holy Spirit. Stephen is acting out of the Spirit’s power, not his earthly desires. Stephen is FULLY submitted to Jesus in this moment, and this moment is Stephen facing lies against his character, an angry mob threatening murder, and certain death. Oh that I would stand like this as I am being persecuted for Jesus’ name sake. Father God, thank You that You have already provided all we need for life and godliness. There is nothing more we are waiting on, but have all we need in Jesus, His life and work. Thank You for sending Your Spirit to us, and for opening my eyes to Your glory, invading my heart with Your Presence, and FILLING me FULL today. Allow Your Spirit to have FULL reign of my life, words, actions and affections today, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
