Acts 4:17-18
“But in order that it may spread no further among the people, let us warn them to speak no more to anyone in this name.” So they called them and charged them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.”
The persecution for these apprentices of Jesus is getting thicker. Now they are essentially telling these followers of Jesus, they can follow Him, but they cannot speak His name publicly. They are in essence telling them they cannot preach the gospel. The religious leaders must know there are 5000 other followers of Jesus now, but hope that cutting off the head of “the snake” will cause them all to fall away. What they fail to recognize is that
The Gospel is NOT
The power of men
But the supernatural
Power of God
These warnings to not speak the name of Jesus does not curtail the spread of the gospel, but continues the spread of the gospel. Father God, thank You for Your work in and through Your Son Jesus and the work He does in and through me. Never let me back down from sharing Your Gospel, but give me boldness to speak Your Truth in all areas of life, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
