Acts 1:22
“beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us—one of these men must become with us a witness to his resurrection.”

Filling this role is continued in this verse, revealing again that there were many people, specifically men to choose from. There were many more people who traveled with Jesus , heard His messages and saw His miracles than the twelve apostles. This individual had to be someone who witnessed all Jesus did from His baptism to His ascension. One reason for this, is that they would have known this person, talked with this man, and experienced the same types of life experiences over the last three years. The other reason, is that this person needed to be an eye witness, not a second hand source. The essential piece to Christianity that is different from all other religions, is that Jesus is alive! This person would be witness to Jesus’ resurrection!

Our God is not dead
But Jesus is fully alive

There were many people who were eye witnesses to Jesus’ resurrection, who saw Him alive, walked with Him and talked with Him for over forty days before He ascended to Heaven. Father God, thank You for these eye witnesses, but more than that, thank You for Your Holy Spirit in me that testifies to the Truth and has revealed this to me. Compel me to live today, powered by Your Spirit, knowing our God lives, and that changes everything. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
