Circumcision was scene by the Jewish people as an outward work that made God happy. Stephen is refuting that right now. Circumcision was a token to remind the people of God, and specifically the promise of God given to Abraham and all his descendants. Stephen’s point is that Abraham did this in faith, just like getting up from his land and moving to Canaan. It was not based on works, or on keeping the law of Moses, because there was no Mosaic Law in existence for Abraham to keep. This covenant was not meant to be
A badge of honor
But a
Badge of
Brokenness
Faith in God, reveals a posture in a person that they recognize their need for God. Faith in God, is an inward recognition that we need God in every area and circumstance of our life, and a reminder that I am broken, but God is faithful. Father God, thank You for Your grace and mercy. For revealing my own brokenness to me, and opening my eyes to Your perfection. Allow me to fully trust in You today, where I live, work and play, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
