Acts 7:48
““‘Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build for me, says the Lord, or what is the place of my rest?”
These religious leaders who have put Stephen on trial are guilty of temple worship. Really worshiping what their own hands could do, and accomplish, rather than God, His work and His glory. Even though they “know” God, they did not honor God, and became futile in their thinking, exchanging the immortal and invisible God of the universe for images resembling mortality. Stephen uses this passage from the Old Testament to open their eyes to the Truth. This Old Testament Scripture, foreshadows this New Testament reality
God is not housed in
Any house made by
Human hands, but
In Humans themselves
This is the great Mystery of the ages. God is not looking for a temple made of stone or brick. God is the Creator of all things, the universe and all that it is and all that is in it! Our God is to be worshiped in Spirit and Truth. Father God, You alone are the maker of all things, and have no need of a building, but have chosen to reside in and through Your people. Thank You for residing in and through my life! Compel me to worship You today, in Spirit and Truth, and to allow Your Presence to shine through me today, where I work, live and play, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
