Acts 5:40
“and when they had called in the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.”

The Sanhedrin (the judge, and jury) listen to Gamaliel’s advice, then bring the disciples in to give them a good beating before commanding them to not speak in the name of Jesus. They hope that a good beat down first, followed by strict orders will keep their mouths shut, and hope they will fear for their health, more than fear God. They do not realize that Jesus, while walking with them, told them about this, and that this would happen.

To be
Forewarned
Is to be
Forearmed

“Beware of men, for they will hand you over to the courts and scourge you in their synagogues“
To be given a heads up, prepares us for the future. This is a warning to us as well. We will be persecuted for the name of Jesus. This forewarning, is forearming. Father God, thank You for the heads up, and for warning me that this could/will happen. Help me to fear only You now in the good times, so that my faith is built up for the bad times, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

ACTION: Fear only God
